ISTDP-North offers a wide range of seminars and workshops to help clinicians develop key therapeutic skills in attachment based psychodynamic interventions. There is a clear emphasis on Attachment Based ISTDP techniques.

Attachment Based ISTDP techniques

These seminars and workshops comprise a mixture of theoretical teaching alongside video clinical material with the aim of covering the following topics:

  • Attachment trauma and its consequences
  • Developing psychodynamic and attachment based formulations and interventions
  • Understanding the role of anxiety and defenses in symptom formation
  • Technical differences in working with fragility and/or resistance

Trainer

ISTDP-North director and lead teacher Dr Javier Malda Castillo is a chartered clinical psychologist registered with the British Psychological Society (BPS) and the Health Professions Council (HCPC) in the UK. He is also a Group Analytic Practitioner (Institute of Group Analysis), as well as a British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) and Anna Freud Centre accredited Mentalization Based Treatment (MBT) practitioner. Furthermore, Dr Javier Malda Castillo is an IEDTA accredited ISTDP psychotherapist.

Who is Eligible?

The seminars and workshops are suitable for clinicians working in NHS, third sector, charitable as well as other settings. In order to participate in the seminars, participants must be qualified mental health professionals registered with a professional body (eg: psychotherapists, psychologists, psychiatrists or counsellors) or registered in an accredited training programme. Participants working under the clinical supervision of an allied mental health professional (i.e. assistant psychologists/support workers etc.) can also participate, provided that their clinical supervisors support their attendance.
